A Diva Dines On The Gift Economy At Karma Kitchen
Charity Begins In The Kitchen
The MoMa, Modern Bride magazine, “The Mod Squad”… some contemporary things just work.
Welcome to Karma Kitchen, a total modern-day hippie hotspot. Here, the gift of gab and gastronomy both come gratis. We’re obsessed, and we know you’ll agree.
As fate would have it, every Sunday is a holy day in Berkeley. A wholly volunteer-driven experiment in generosity, that is. Imagine a menu sans prices and a check that simply reads, “your meal was a gift from someone before you.” Who wouldn’t want to keep the chain of gifts alive by paying for future diners? A chain is only as strong as the weakest link. Besides, no one wants bad karma.
So mark your iCal for Sunday lunches at Taste of the Himalayas Restaurant. Whether you’re serving others or in the midst of your own sumptuous fare, you’ll be smiling like Lady Luck. Lunch served from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. 1700 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley; 510/849-4983
Whoever said there’s no free lunch?
